At the Community Health Academy of the Heights, our college counselor, Mr. Bowen, helps students navigate the college admissions process—from choosing colleges to applying for financial aid and celebrating acceptances.
The journey begins in the Middle School where students have the opportunity to travel to various CUNY’s and experience college life and learn about the various resources and opportunities they may have in New York City.
In the 9th and 10th grade, Mr. Bowen and advisors meet with students in groups to discuss career interests and possible college majors. In 11th grade, students meet in groups and individually to explore colleges that align with their goals, academics, and finances. By 12th grade, one-on-one sessions help students narrow their choices, consider scholarships and financial aid, and complete their applications.
The College Office also hosts college fairs, financial-aid workshops, and college visits, providing valuable exposure and preparation for students' futures. Additionally, career fairs and advisory sessions are organized throughout the year to encourage students to consider career options and future aspirations.
