CHAH Boys Basketball Starting Strong!

The boys basketball team is just about at the halfway point of the season. Thus far, it has been a great success. They are 11-4 overall and 8-2 in league play. Included in some of those wins are some exciting overtime victories and some exhilarating moments in front of our packed crowds at home and away.

The second half should be filled with more excitement as the team prepares to play the Number 1 team in the state, South Bronx Prep, in the prestigious Martin Luther King tournament at James Monroe High School. A week after that, the boys make their annual trip to Syracuse to play Westhill High School and get a tour of the Carmelo Anthony Center at Syracuse University.

Career Day at CHAH

Last week was Career Day here at CHAH! Professionals from all sorts of industries and services came and spoke to the students for the morning. Each professional spoke to a classroom of students about their experiences and education for about twenty minutes.

Students were visited by an advertising salesperson, FDNY firefighters, a NYPD photographer, an accountant, a corrections officer (who graduated from CHAH!), a physical therapist, a judge, an information technology specialist, and a research scientist, among others.

Students were able to ask questions about the various careers and hear a variety of options for their futures.

Buzzer Beater for the CHAH Boys Basketball Team!

The CHAH Boys Basketball team won at home to put move their record to 9-3 overall (6-1 in PSAL play)

This win was especially exciting as CHAH won on a buzzer beater from Marcel Garcia. It was a true team effort as Delwyn Alcantrara started the play, Jacob Ramirez made the pass, Jhoasy Herrera set the vital pick, and Bruce Mata was key in spreading out the court.

As seen on the video, the crowd enjoyed the moment and was an important part of the victory!

Indiana Pacers NBA Assistant Coach Bill Bayno stopped by CHAH this week with his college teammate, and father of 2 CHAH students, Roger Younger. Coach Bayno has over 30 years of Division I and NBA coaching experience and has been an NBA coach for the Portland Trailblazers, Toronto Raptors and Indiana Pacers.

Bayno gave great advice to the CHAH basketball players, telling them to "love your teammates and treat officials with respect.”

Thanks for stopping by, Coach Bayno!
