In the summer of 2019, six high school students from CHAH engaged in a Citizen Scientist project surrounding the health of NYC waterways and how to improve them through policy. The Citizen Science program is a special project based learning science program supported by the Teaching Residents at Teachers College (TR@TC) program. CHAH and and two other schools partner with the TR@TC program to offer hands on opportunities for students to engage in science in their communities. The summer program’s culminating event took place in the Smith Learning Theater where teaching residents and students, supported by TR@TC alum and residents, showcased their findings and recommendations on the main stage for family, friends, and legislators.
If you see Llenely Urena, Franklin Eustate, Michael Florentino, Jeremy Mata, Elvis Tejeda, and Junirsa Valerio, please congratulate them on their successful participation in this special science enrichment program. You will also see Ms. Munoz, CHAH's living environment teacher, featured in the video, as she taught in this program as one of the Citizen Science teachers.
