This week, CHAH 8th grade students toured LaGuardia Community College. They sat through an informational session and learned the academic requirements, process, and important deadlines of applying to LaGuardia Community College.
Led by an LGCC alumnus, the middle school students toured the library, media center, and athletic club as well as the campus.
This past Tuesday, the Boys Basketball Team picked up their first playoff win at home!
In front of a raucous home crowd, the boys defeated a very good Goldstein High School by the score of 74-63.

Last week both the Girl’s and Boy’s Basketball Teams celebrated their Senior athletes! The Seniors were given roses to hand to their family members who came to the game and recognized for their participation over their high school career.
The Seniors on the Girl’s Basketball Team are Johanna Diaz-Mena, Cristina Difo, Rachell Fernandez, Laura Genao-Perez, Krissary Guzman, Alexa St. Hilare, and Llenely Urena.
The Seniors on the Boy’s Basketball Team are Marcel Garcia, Jhoasy Herrera, Bruce Mata, and Timithy Ovalles.
High School Heroes is an immersive program in which high school students teach JA curriculum to local elementary schools. Take a look at the video for an inside look!

As part of a national initiative from the National Equity Lab this fall, CHAH students were invited to join the pilot for Harvard Professor Elisa New's college course Poetry in America: The City from Whitman to Hip Hop.
Under the supervision of Ms. Doscher, fifteen 11th- and 12th-grade CHAH students successfully completed the course through no cost to themselves and were able to earn four credits through Harvard University's Extension School.
Advisory Board Member, Merima Ramdedovic, was asked to speak on the topic of college readiness at the award ceremony for the pilot at Jazz at Lincoln Center. "To me, college readiness means feeling confident in the transition from high school to college," Merima said, "and this course definitely made me feel college-ready."
Due to their success in the Poetry in America pilot, CHAH students were awarded ten scholarships through the National Equity Lab to take a two-credit Introduction to Engineering course through Arizona State University this spring. They are currently taking the course under the supervision of Mr. Heidke.
